C'è da pensare che l'eccellente prestazione delle Sunbeam in occasione di quel RAC (vittoria assoluta di Toivonen e 3 auto nei primi quattro) possano aver fatto pensare alla Talbot di avere buone chance di riuscire a portare Frequelin a battagliare con Vatanen per il titolo piloti nell'edizione '81 della gara britannica. Soprattutto perchè lo stesso Frequelin, conquistando il podio, si era comportato molto bene al debutto al RAC.
Invece è finita con un mesto ritiro e con il francese sostanzialmente incapace fino a quando è stato in gara di tenere il passo dei migliori; in particolare di riuscire a contenere il diretto concorrente
